Name: Conor Burns
Address: Bournemouth West Conservatives, 135 Hankinson Road, Bournemouth BH9 1HR
Dear Resident,
Since I was selected by local people to be your Conservative candidate a year and a half ago, I’ve talked to many hundreds of local people as I have been out and about campaigning and canvassing.
I've also sent a survey to almost every local resident. I've read every reply myself and responded personally to thousands of local people.
Sadly, the one thing that really comes across is how little faith people have in politicians to tell the truth and actually deliver their promises. Related to that is a revulsion at the excesses of some MPs on all sides of the House of Commons and their inability to say sorry.
I want to be the change and I want to be different.
It's not enough to live here and be a part of the local community. Although that is a good start. I want to be totally clear about what sort of MP I would be.
That’s why, today, I’m publishing my contract with you, the people of Bournemouth West, Alderney and Branksome East.
I’d like you to read it, remember it, and – if I’m elected as your Member of Parliament – hold me to what I promise.
That’s the sort of MP I want to be – honest, straight-talking and different.

Conor Burns
If you elect me as your Member of Parliament:
- I will always live locally. It is beyond my comprehension as to why anyone selected to stand here would not want to make their home here.
- I will publish an annual report outlining what I have done in Parliament and locally over the course of each year.
- If I am elected as your Member of Parliament I will employ staff who have a culture of serving and helping local people.
- I will hold regular surgeries in a variety of locations across the constituency, so I can hear from you and help with your problems.
- I will be honest with people about public spending, but I will stand up for the local community to protect important local services.
- I will hold regular meetings with local police officers so I can raise any concerns you have and press the police to act upon them.
- I will regularly consult on issues of local concern – such as the Wessex Way 40mph speed limit change or the replacement for the IMAX building at the seafront – in order to work with local communities and councils to campaign for change where necessary.
Conor’s transparency pledge
On top of the above pledges, Conor also has a ‘transparency pledge’ about Parliamentary expenses:
I, Conor Burns, Conservative candidate for Bournemouth West, Alderney and Branksome East, promise that if I am elected, I shall:
- Publish on my personal website details of all my personal expenses incurred as your Member of Parliament.
- Publish on my personal website details of all my office expenses incurred as your Member of Parliament.
- Publish all donations of more than £1,500 to Bournemouth West Conservative Association or to me, in line with Electoral Commission rules.
- Never claim for food.
- Never claim for furniture or household goods.
- Never claim for first class rail travel
- Never claim for mortgage payments
- Never employ any members of my family.
